I
want to extend a heart-felt word of thanks to all of those who worked
so hard to make our Church Conference such a success, especially to
all of you who attended. It was an innovative experiment in how to
conduct United Methodist business. We took the necessary votes and
heard the necessary reports, but all was presented in the context of
a Sunday morning worship service.
We heard encouraging words from our District Superintendent, Kent Melcher, as
well as his proclamation of the Good News. We celebrated the successful ministries
of the past year here at Lowman UMC. We had wonderful music, first provided by
the Hallelujah Highway Singers, the Lowman Ensemble, and the Chancel Choir. Then
our music staff, Nick Good and Jeff Kready, added so much with their contributions.
Finally, the congregation really sang our hymns with meaning and power.
I feel very positive about our congregation and hope that all of you who were

Sunday also feel that way. Yes, we have some financial problems for the coming year of 2004. Yes,
we are asking volunteers to do more and more. Those who have to continually
call asking for nursery helpers, greeters, and golf cart drivers get
frustrated at times. But the overall theme of our Church Conference
was very positive.
I apologize for the extra length of the Conference/worship service. We were aiming
for a 12:00 dismissal. However, as I discussed with several people after the
benediction, a “normal” church conference would last just as long,
but without the outstanding music. And a lot more people were present for this
Church Conference than in an average year.
So thank you, one and all, for supporting your pastors, your staff, and your
congregation. Together let us go out to love and serve our community and our
world in Jesus’ name.
Grace and Peace,
Dan Waters
