Dan Waters, Senior PastorA Word From the Pastor

Churches and Christians face many problems nowadays. We may think our problems are unique, that the pressures we are dealing with are too intense and the obstacles are insurmountable. It is helpful for us to remember that there have been no “easy” times in the history of the church.
In the first century A.D. the church was faced with persecution and pressure from “the world” to compromise the faith. The Book of Revelation was given to the church at this time, with the following important messages:
1. Christians, hold fast to the faith in troubled times.
2. Remember, God is the ultimate power in the universe and evil will eventually be destroyed through God’s power.
3. Jesus Christ, God’s own true Son, is alone worthy to rule with the Father.
4. Those who are faithful to God will know the joys of a special relationship to God.
We today also need to hear these messages, and to claim the promises of The Book of Revelation. In addition, there are “The Letters to Seven Churches” found in chapters two and three of Revelation. Each letter addresses particular problems that these seven churches of the first century were facing. When we read them today, they can also teach us important lessons.
So, for the next few Sundays, I will be preaching a sermon series on “The Letters to Seven Churches.” I invite you all to be present in worship so we can explore these messages together and see where our congregation — and our personal lives — are in need of change. What is God saying to us through these letters written so long ago?

Grace and Peace
Dan Waters
