Lowman United Methodist Church... Sermon

    The new “Contemporary Worship” service will begin in a little over a month, on January 4, 2004. Several people have volunteered to join the Contemporary Worship Team. We have tentatively selected Monday nights for that Team to meet, probably from 8:00 till 9:00. (We would still like more volunteers to join the Contemporary Worship Team.)
     After we have our two different worship services established, I expect most people to select the service that best fits their needs and regularly attend that service. The 8:30 service will be more traditional, and we are gathering requests from the congregation of the hymns they would like to see included. The organ and the chancel choir will give music leadership at the 8:30 service.
     The 10:45 service will emphasize newer, more lively music and will include less liturgy like “responsive readings.” The music leadership will be provided by song leaders backed by keyboard, guitars, and more.

The congregation hopes that more of our visitors to Lowman will relate to this style of worship and will continue to worship with us.
Another group of people will select the worship service that best fits their schedule, regardless of worship style. Some persons will normally attend one style of worship service, but occasionally attend the other style service depending on changes in plans or schedule issues in their lives. I am hopeful that some people will attend both worship services, especially since the sermon will usually be different at each service.
Finally, I invite many of you to help us get the Contemporary Service off the ground by attending it for several months, even if you know that you will eventually make the more traditional service your regular choice. It will be so helpful and uplifting to have a large group rather than a small number in the sanctuary for the new service. Think of it as a way you can be a missionary!
