Help Serve a Meal at Lowman

We need cooks, servers and dishwashers for the months of February and March. Read through these helpful guidelines and see if perhaps you can be part of our Wednesday night ministry! After you see how easy it is, sign up in the office for a Wednesday of your choice.

Guidelines for Wednesday Meals

On average we serve 40-50 people.

Please let Debbie know as soon as possible what you will be serving. She will print the monthly meal menu in the newsletter and post it around the church so diners will know what to expect.

Please check the refrigerator, freezer and cabinets for staples or leftovers. Debbie can show you which shelves are set aside for Wednesday evenings.

There is a whiteboard in the kitchen. Please list any details (like leftovers frozen, fresh food that will keep that you left, etc) on it for the next week's cook. If you had a particularly good recipe, leave a copy in the notebook.

You will be reimbursed for your expenses. Please submit your receipts to Laura, our financial secretary.

Always offer peanut butter and jelly.

Meals should be nutritious and simple.

Please offer low fat milk and use whole grain breads when practical.

Please offer a salad or vegetable tray.

Desserts are not necessary.

Fruit or unsweetened applesauce is always popular.

These types of meals have been popular:

  • spaghetti or other pasta meals
  • tacos or taco salad
  • soups with corn muffins or sandwiches
  • chili
  • simple casseroles

There are four crock-pots in the kitchen. A crock-pot meal can be prepared on Tuesday and refrigerated. Someone at church Wednesday morning can take the crock-pots out of the refrigerator and turn them on to cook for the day. Then the cook can come in on Wednesday, put together the rest of the meal, and serve.

Dinner is served from 5:30-6:30 pm.

Randy Banks is happy to set out the dishes, napkins and flatware on Wednesday afternoon. Please call him or leave a message with Debbie about what dishes you need that evening.

Count the money that people donate for dinner and put it in an envelope and give to Pastor Kathleen or put on her desk in the office.

Please do not leave leftovers in the refrigerator. Milk that will not be out of date, peanut butter, jelly, condiments, and sandwich bread can be placed on the Wednesday eve refrigerator shelves.

All fresh vegetables or fruits that will spoil should be taken home or given away.

If you can freeze food that can be used another Wednesday, please wrap it well, label it with the contents and dates, and freeze it by placing on the top shelf of the upright freezer. This might be leftover salsa, cooked hamburger, lunch meats, etc. Note it on the whiteboard.

If there are a few portions of a dish, please package it up and send it home with someone. Please don't leave it in the church refrigerator as it will spoil.

Thanks so much for serving our church in this important way!
