 Here’s
a quiz testing your geography and history knowledge. First, can you describe
the size of the Kansas East Conference of the United Methodist Church?
The answer is: If you draw a line from Nebraska south to Oklahoma so
that Junction City is on the east side and El Dorado is on the west side
of the line, that’s the Kansas East Conference.
Second, do you know how many United Methodist-related colleges there are in the Kansas East Conference? The answer is: one. Third, what is the name of that college? If you said Baker University, you are correct! Fourth, did you know that Baker is the oldest educational institution in the state of Kansas? It was founded in 1858 by Methodists coming to Kansas. It is older than the state of Kansas!

Finally, do you know why I’m asking all these questions? The answer is: On Sunday, February 29 (Leap Day!), the Rev. Ira DeSpain and a Share Team from Baker University will be here at Lowman UMC. Ira is Minister to the University and the Share Team consists of four current Baker students. They will lead both worship services with the morning message, children’s story, and special music. They will also visit the Senior High Sunday School class. I want you all to put this date on your calendars and plan to be here on Sunday, February 29. If you are a former Baker student (even if you did not graduate), we will recognize you. We are also inviting the students from Lowman who currently attend Baker so that they can be honored. Baker University Sunday is our opportunity to learn more about Baker so that we can better support our United Methodist college in the Kansas East Conference. Grace and Peace, |
